Today I want to celebrate with my dear friend and fellow student pilot Ashley. She had her first solo flight today and I couldn’t be more excited for her! We have shared many days of excitement, disappointment and frustration together. Her solo feels like it’s as much mine as it is hers, although I in no way want to take away from her day, I am truly overjoyed for her.
Ashley and I started flight training and ground school at the same time. We have leaned on each other and encouraged each other along the way. It has been a wonderful experience and we have grown close along this journey. We laugh together and I think we have even shared some tears along the way. Most of all, we have been there for each other as we have struggled through good days and bad days. I know there have been times that we both thought we might give up, but I think because of our friendship, we were able to help each other believe that we can do this and she did! I’m so proud of her for hanging in there and making this happen. I never doubted that she would get it done!

One thing I love about my new flying adventure is all the new friends I’m meeting along the way. Pilots are a wonderful, friendly group of folks. Everyone has been supportive and helpful with advice and encouragement. I think it’s a good idea to surround yourself with people that will build you up and help you believe in yourself again when the days get long and training gets hard. In the end, it is up to you, but sometimes a little push from your friends can help you cross the finish line.
Congratulations on your first awesome solo! You worked hard for it and you earned it! I’m so glad to call you my friend and fellow aviator!
